Tanya Gooding-Harder began adding chocolate chips to her English muffins a short time after her marriage to Englishman, Philip Harder. The American-born had difficulty stomaching such a plain tasting baked good. As residents of the English countryside tend to do, Tanya entered her English muffins in baking competitions where she won numerable blue ribbons. Officials and taste-testers often commented that they couldn’t quite put their finger on it, but the muffins had a unique flavor. Of course, everyone knew it was the chocolate chips – an American flair to the dull, English food – though no proud Englishperson would admit it. Tanya also won blue ribbons for her jams and jellies, to which she added chocolate chips as well. Like many Americans, Tanya struggled with obesity, probably due to her habit of putting chocolate chips into almost every recipe she concocted. That statement is a slight exaggeration, though she did keep a pepper grinder full of chocolate chips in her spice rack. Other “spices” in the rack included bacon bits, candy corn, and fruit snacks. Indeed, her recipes were delicious, but her butt was becoming enormous. Her sugar-filled diet was also taking a toll on her dental hygiene. In fact, many people upon meeting Tanya for the first time mistakenly assumed she was British-born due to her very British-looking smile. |
